Lanterns 101- FAQs

 

Are your lights made in the USA?

Yes! We work with four coppersmiths which are all located in the US.

What wattage light bulbs do I use in my electric lantern?

You can go up to 60 watts per socket.

What finish is best for coastal installations?

The natural copper is best for coastal installations, this will weather and patina naturally over time.

Can you create a custom lantern?

Yes, please contact us for your custom quote.

Can someone help me with selecting the appropriate style and size lantern for my home?

What are your lights made from?

Each lantern is custom-made with the finest copper.

What fuels do your lanterns use?

All of our lanterns can be equipped to use electric, natural gas or liquid propane (LP).

How long will it take to custom build my lantern?

Most lanterns will ship within 4-12 weeks (depending on the Collection)

What is your policy on returns or exchanges?

All lanterns are handcrafted and made to order. Standard lanterns can be returned within 14 days.  Cancelled, exchanged, and returned lanterns are subject to a 50% restocking fee. The customer is responsible for return shipping fees. No returns on custom manufactured lanterns, or installed lanterns.

What mounting options do you offer?

Most of our lanterns can be mounted on the wall, post or hung. We can also offer mountings such as a wall arm bracket, yoke, etc. Please call our sales staff for a complete list of options available with our lanterns.

Why do I need a yoke with a hanging gas lantern?

Hanging a gas lantern within a yoke keeps the lantern from swinging freely, which can weaken the gas line and possibly cause a rupture. We offer a variety of yoke styles you may choose from.

Will you ship your lanterns to me?

We will ship your lanterns right to your front door or business.

Are your lanterns UL approved?

Yes, our lanterns are UL approved for damp locations.

How many BTUs does each lantern use?

Charleston Collection lanterns: 1460 for natural gas / 1280 for propane (LP)            Carolina Collection lanterns: 2730 for natural gas / 2080 for propane (LP)        Goddess Collection lanterns: 3451 for natural gas / 2800 for propane (LP)

What is the gas pressure required in the gas line in order to run a gas light?

The gas line pressure needs to be at 7 inches of water column pressure.

What kind of clearance is required for installing a gas lantern?

The minimum top clearance, from the chimney, should be no less than twelve (12) inches from any combustible surface. The clearance from any side should be no less than six (6) inches from any combustible surface.

What size gas line fitting is needed for the actual installation of a gas lantern?

You will need to use a standard ¼ inch copper flared line and flared fitting.

What gauge of copper do you use when making my lanterns?

We use 24-ounce copper on most lanterns. We will, although, use thicknesses that vary from 16 ounces to 32 ounces for some lanterns and accessories, as required.
